4 Plants That Are Perfect For Combination With Roses In The Garden

Aug 11, 2021

As it is well known from the child’s book "The Little Prince", roses are very capricious flowers that claim everything that happens around them. However, for home gardening, roses are one of the most desired flowers not only because of their remarkable beauty, but also because of the many advantages of the growing process that remain invisible to the untrained eye. In this article we will not deal with the technology of cultivation, but we will point out four plants that are ideal companions for roses in the garden.

These flowers will not only add a required aesthetic look to your garden, but can also prevent the appearance of some bad insects on the roses. Also, keep in mind that those are just some suggestions that are just a small part of what you can choose to improve your garden.

Sage

Modern gardeners recommend planting sage near the rose. Its sharp petals and leaves create a remarkable contrast to the round shape of the pink color. In combination with the roses, the sage creates a stronger and richer impact on the senses of anyone who pases the garden.

Fennel Plant

For many gardeners, the rose is much more than just a delight for the human’s eye. Roses can have a remarkable effect in herbal medicine because of the content of vitamin C, which strengthens the immune system, because of its properties in insomnia and for good digestion. To preserve these qualities of the rose, from which to prepare various herbs and decoctions, gardeners recommend the fennel plant. The leaves of this plant add height and texture to the rose bush without taking up space. Moreover, at the same time, they attract beneficial insects that can take care of a cleaner environment around the roses.

Wormwood

Another plant that has a very strong aesthetic and protective effect on the rose is the common wormwood. It can grow low in rose bushes, and its characteristics give it an artful silver-green range in romantic pink flowers. Although they require very good drainage, with proper cultivation, you can only contribute to the health of the roses in your garden. Surely, with this flower you should pay more attention and take good care of them.

Coreopsis

Finally, as a purely aesthetic solution is the addition of the flower yolks (so-called Coreopsis). The yolks can surround the rose bush and keep it until it releases color, and when combined together, the colors have a divine effect on the senses. To put it more simply, the mixture of those two flowers will brighten the mood of anyone near your garden.

What is more, the beauty of the rose can be emphasized with the help of other attractive plants and get a remarkable decorative effect. In addition, there are many garden plants that could be planted next to roses and have a beneficial effect on their development by protecting them from diseases and pests.

Finally, keep in mind that roses do not like much competition, so do not choose plants with too intense growth, as well as self-propagating, be careful with the vines. Always plant the plants at least 12 in away from the roses so that their roots do not intertwine. Make sure there is good air circulation around the roses. Also, always consider the needs of plants for light, soil, and water.

I kind of honestly believe that roses are enough on their own in any garden without binding anyone to my opinion. I personally grow over 20 types of roses at home. My husband loves them and we both share this hobby. It is wonderful to observe such perfect plants.

I am so happy! I spent a month reading and researching the most suitable plants that can be planted in the garden with the roses without the plants themselves harming each other. I settled on sage, will try that option and hope all goes well.
