The Different Stages of The Fall Season

The cold months are the hardest time for your garden. With the onset of autumn days, the amount of light reaching the plant species gradually decreases. Growth is slowing. This is a sign that it is time to reduce watering. At low temperatures, abundant watering can cool the plants and lead to the disappearance of their roots. Avoid wetting the leaves of flowering plants.

Early Autumn

Early autumn is the time to choose and buy the bulbs of spring flowers you want to plant. Autumn is also a good time to plant evergreens. So they will have time to take root and strengthen for the winter.

Mid-autumn

In mid-autumn you should reduce the height of the grass to a maximum of 3 inches. Also do not forget to remove all mowed tips, because otherwise they will begin to rot in the grass and they can develop pathogenic microorganisms that harm health on the grass carpet.

Prepare the soil for the next season by digging it and fertilizing it. Use natural compost from leaves and bark.

Collect fallen leaves and withered and broken twigs. Shrubs that bloom until late autumn can be pruned. In mid-autumn, remove the summer bulbs and leave them for storage in the basement.

Late Autumn

In late autumn - November - December - strengthen some tree species and shrubs that need this by "picking up" their branches with a net or twine. So there is no risk of the snow breaking them. Some trees, such as figs, need to be "dressed" during the winter season, especially when they are young. Wrap them in paper and nylon on top.

Remove all annuals from the soil. If there is a water area in your yard, such as a pond, clean the fallen leaves with a rake, remove cold-sensitive plants from the pond and store them indoors. Clean, water filters and pumps and store them. Cover the pond with protective material.

Check the condition of garden tools, carefully clean them of rust and dirt and disinfect them.

Taking Care for Flowers in the Fall

Store all cold-sensitive plants indoors, making sure they are healthy, free of diseased parts and free from pests.

In October, harvest geraniums, cloves, and fuchsias. Autumn is the time when you can plant rose bushes if you haven't done so in the spring. And the best month to do it is October.

Take care of the plants that are blooming now such as aster, dahlia, chrysanthemum, backpack and others. Water them moderately, remove their overblown flowers regularly.

Although the garden is naturally beautiful in autumn, be sure to decorate it properly and enjoy the variety of colors that this colorful season offers. Suitable for garden decoration are acorns, hazelnuts, walnuts, chestnuts, cones, dried twigs, various arrangements of autumn flowers, grasses and fruits, figurines of forest animals such as hedgehogs, squirrels, birds. Choose pots in autumn shades or with seasonal motifs. An indispensable accent from the autumn landscape for apples and pumpkins. And if your garden hasn’t bloomed yet, you can still decorate the house with gorgeous fall flowers from TodayFlowerDelivery!

My husband and I always strengthen the bushes in the garden and the younger trees already in October. Sometimes the winds are very strong and there is a danger of breaking their branches, as happened last year.
