1. Carnations

Bold and bright classics, cloves are great to add to a bouquet because they can last two to three weeks after cutting.

2. Alstroemerias

Alstroemeria, also called Peruvian lily or Inca lily, is a magnificent perennial plant that comes in many different colors. This flower in a vase looks like a swarm of butterflies with outstretched wings, and is still beautiful for two weeks.

3. Lilies

Lilies are available in many colors and can last between 10 and 14 days - from bud to wilting of the petals.

 4. Orchids

Orchids have a reputation for being difficult to care for, but when it comes to flower arrangements, they last about two to three weeks, which is pretty decent for a cut flower.

5. Anthuriums

Anthuriums will continue to look great in about two to three weeks. They also have great, wax-like colors.

6. Craspedia

Their appearance does not change much after they have been cut. They also dry well and look great in a vase, both fresh and dry.

How to make cut flowers live longer in a vase?

Regardless of the variety of the flower, there are many ways you can extend the life of the vase:

  • For starters, always cut the flowers at a 45 degree angle about two inches from the end of the stem. This provides a larger surface area for water absorption.
  • Remove all leaves and flowers that are below the waterline, as this can cause rot in the water, which can shorten the life of the flowers. In this line of thought, get rid of all the dead or decaying leaves or petals.
  • Change the water every few days to keep it fresh, and trim the stems about an inch or two when changing the water.
  • Finally, keep in mind where you place your vase, keeping it away from drafts, radiators and direct sunlight. Oddly enough, nearby fruits can cause the flowers to wither faster, so don't place them near a banana fruit bowl.

However, If you want to apply the acquired skills, you can always order a bouquet of lilies or an orchid flower arrangement. Such a flower jewel will not only bring a pinch of freshness to your home, but also can turn into a wonderful present for a loved one.

Absolutely! Carnations are the longest lasting flowers I have ever bought. They lived for about 2 weeks in a vase without any additives. I only pruned them and changed the water.
